TESS stands for Thermal Energy Storage System, and the core of our energy solutions. TESS captures unused thermal energy or heat and transforms it into usable energy.
How Does It Work?
Designed and synthesized by Dr. Stephane Bilodeau (of Novacab), the TESbox is a hermetically sealed, custom-designed, Phase Change Material (PCM) configured to the specific environmental conditions of the site. Whether newly constructed, or integrated into existing systems, the system control platform optimizes energy management strategies for realized efficiency gains. Novacab’s patented hybrid platform implementation capitalized on systems with high-temperature rejected heat by leveraging an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) interface, allowing for further efficiency gains.
Efficient Energy Utilization
TESS optimizes energy usage by capturing, storing, and redeploying excess thermal energy generated by various processes, reducing overall power consumption by 20-40%. In the Hybrid Energy Recovery Configuration, the stored energy can be utilized to load level, peak shave, and in some cases provide a short term uninterrupted power supply function.

What is compatable with TESS?
We have a solution for every top-tier power consumer. Flexible deployment configurations all but ensure a compelling value proposition, and it starts with clearly understanding your energy needs. Our team will work with you!
Would this work on a smaller building?
Yes it can. Although generally correlated, energy consumption matters more than building size. As a general rule of thumb, consumption > 60,000 kWh/month is the lower threshold of cost effectiveness. However, the details matter and a free site assessment provides the answer in all but the most challenging cases.
What kind of maintenance needs to be performed?
While far more durable than any average HVAC system, any industrial/commercial grade equipment should be serviced on some periodicity. We recommend a yearly inspection, to include servicing of externally exposed rotating equipment (if applicable).
Are the contols accessible?
Generally, yes. As part of the existing building management system (BMS), control Access is consistent with standard implementations.
